About Our Flowers

All of our spring, summer and fall flowers are grown on the same rich soils as our fruits and vegetables, creating a vibrant and colorful selection for our straight bunches, single stems and mixed bouquets. We start most of our spring blooming flowers in the fall, with plants wintering over in the field and unheated greenhouses, or hoophouses. These varieties provide our large selection of spring flowers in April, May, and June. Our summer annuals, started during the spring, bloom during the hotter months and our ornamental grasses, peppers and broomcorn add interest to bouquets through the late summer and early fall. We have something in bloom from March through October.

Flowers at the market
We begin our flower season with a selection of bulb flowers, including Tulips, Daffodils, Dutch Iris, and Asiatic Lilies. By May we are in full production with a stunning array of pink, purple and white provided by Peonies, Bachelor Buttons, Larkspur, Sweet William, Feverfew, Agrostemma, Campanula, Godetia and the delicate blossoms of Saponaria. Sweet, delicately scented Snapdragons bloom in a lush velvet red, soft pink and pale yellow.  June brings beautiful Asters and   the bright yellow of Rudbeckia, also known as Black Eyed Susans.
Lovely, long lasting Lisianthus blooms in late June and July, as do the erotically scented Oriental Lilies. With the onset of summer, Zinnias, Marigolds, Gomphrena and Celosias become mainstays of our bouquets. We’ll have an abundance of bright Sunflowers from June through October, when deep purple millet makes a striking accent in arrangements. Mid and late summer bring the sweet, seductive scent of Tuberoses. As the nights cool in September, the colors of Zinnias, Marigolds, Celosia, Cosmos, and Sunflowers get bright and strong, contrasting to the red and purple of ornamental peppers. Late season Lilies and Dahlias enjoy the cool fall weather until frost brings our fresh cut flower season to a close. We continue to sell a selection of dried flower bouquets and dried flower wreathes through the remainder of our market season.
Special order flowers for weddings, banquets, and parties
We offer special orders of cut flowers for weddings, graduation parties, large banquets or other events. Cut flowers may be purchased  by the bucket (one variety or mixed), in mixed bouquets or special arrangements. Flowers must be pre-ordered at least a week in advance. They may be picked up at the farm or at the Durham or Carrboro markets. Many people like to come to the farm and see our selection of cut flowers, picking out colors and varieties that suit their needs, filling up buckets with the mix of flowers they want. Buckets of mixed flowers average approximately $30 to $40 per bucket. Special arrangements or bouquets are more. We can also do corsages, boutonnieres, and basket arrangements. Stop by the Carrboro or Durham Farmers Markets to see what we have and talk about flowers for your event.
